Radio and Radar Systems
HF/MW Tuners and Software-Defined Radios
Our radio engineering group specializes in designing and developing advanced radio receivers, transmitters, upconverters, downconverters, and advanced signal analysis systems. Our strengths lie in “software radio” techniques, advanced DSP design, programmable logic design, and user-friendly software interfaces. With these skills, we can produce high-performance, flexible systems to suit the specialized requirements of a variety of users.
Our general-purpose HF and microwave tuners allow surveillance and monitoring over a wide range of frequencies. The HF units cover the frequency range of 1-30 MHz, while the VHF/microwave units cover the frequency range of 30-2000 MHz. These units offer high performance, flexibility, and vertical upgrade. With programming, they accommodate a variety of IF bandwidths, modulation formats, frequency resolution, and analysis routines. The system is based on modular sub-assemblies and a variety of combinations can be selected.
The tuners and receivers use the same RF front ends and multiple-conversion superheterodyne topologies throughout. We’ve paid special attention to the dynamic range and spurious performance of the units so they can operate in high-signal-strength environments. Control signals pass to the units via a standardized RS-232 interface. We can provide Windows®-based control software, or, should the user desire, the interface control specification so the user can develop customized control software.
The tuners convert and pre-select frequencies, without demodulation. Their outputs are at a fixed IF, suitable for further signal processing, either analog or digital.
Our receivers use our advanced suite of DSPs and signal analysis tools to provide a complete solution for surveillance and monitoring of signals spanning a wide range of frequencies. The receivers accommodate all commonly encountered modulation formats. Our proprietary IMPULSE™ software package can help you readily produce specialized signal analysis and logging routines.
The equipment mounts in a standard 19” relay rack. The standard chassis includes a built-in high-resolution LCD monitor, but accommodates an external monitor if necessary, and up to four tuners or receivers.
